The expensive FACTS about the multi-million dollar Prop. A.
“Proposition A means firefighters would be treated differently than all other city employees, including police officers. The only reason you should vote for Proposition A is if you want higher taxes and fewer first responders. But if you want to protect taxpayers and make sure Irving has enough firefighters, police officers, and essential city services to protect your family’s well-being, then bring your friends and vote NO on Tuesday, November 5.”
David Palmer
Former Irving City Councilman
Higher taxes for every Irving family & business.
The firefighter union leaders promoting the California-style collective bargaining Proposition A are leaving out one significant fact – all taxpayers, including home and business owners, will be hit with much higher taxes. Other cities that have approved collective bargaining have seen tax increases in the millions of dollars.
Fewer firefighters & longer emergency response times.
Proposition A and the collective bargaining bureaucracy it forces on our city are NOT about hiring more firefighters and emergency response professionals. It’s just the opposite. If approved by voters, Proposition A will result in cutbacks in the fire department. The only people who benefit from collective bargaining are government union operatives and their high-priced lawyers.
Cuts in police department & reduction in neighborhood patrols.
To make up for the extra cost of collective bargaining within the fire department, city leaders will likely be forced to make cuts in the police budget. This means hiring fewer officers, reducing neighborhood patrols, and cutting programs that protect families and schools from violent crime.
Bigger government & more bureaucracy.
Proposition A’s risky collective bargaining plan would do exactly what similar schemes have done in other cities – dramatically grow the size of government and add layers of expensive bureaucracy. Irving would be forced to hire more staff and attorneys to handle the demands collective bargaining would place on City Hall – that means spending more of your tax dollars.
Weaker city services & less funding for roads & parks.
Do you want more potholes? How about worse traffic congestion? Even fewer parks and walking trails? Well, that’s exactly what the expensive Proposition A will do to our community as City Hall will be forced to cut city services after spending millions of dollars more on lawyers and bureaucracy to handle collective bargaining for our firefighters.
